Grandma's Recipes

After scanning over 150+ recipe cards from the wooden box my Gramma keeps in her kitchen, I created this eight plate piece for her birthday. Spelling out "Gramma Jo", each page features a certain category of recipes. Amongst the scans are stories and small anecdotes that reference all of the family time spent in and around Gramma's kitchen.

Environmental Awareness

What started as a portrait homework for photography homework, turned into an extensive project in which I captured family, friends, and strangers in various settings. The idea behind this work is to call attention to the relationship between the person and their setting. While referencing traditional portraiture photography with the white background and close-up shots, the more exciting and interesting pictures are the ones after you turn the page away from the headshot, the ones where you are allowed to look behind-the-scenes and what is not only surrounding the subject but also the photographer.

Environmental Awareness

These pieces were created to call attention to the current environmental crisis. I used 1950s magazine elements, found online and altered in Photoshop, to create collages specifically focusing on air pollution.

Along with the magazine elements, the layouts and the colors are influenced from 1950s publications. Commercialism dramatically increased during the 1950s, and like the after-effects of that time, elements are multiplied greatly.
