Northeastern University Exhibit Sign
Confronting
Guantanamo
I was asked to create a minimal but expressive
sign for the Confronting Guantanamo exhibit at Northeastern University. This exhibit is part of the Guantanamo Memory Public Project, with its contents available to universities and other institutions.
I wanted to convey the serious tone of the exhibit and balance that with an eye-catching color. By using a vector illustration I created, there is balance between the graphic and the abrasiveness of the typeface. The designated placement of this piece is a 3x3 foot window in front of the corridor that will hold the exhibit. With this in mind, legible visibility for those outside had to be ensured.
The University's regulations regarding their logo and the desires of the exhibit coordinators challenged me with strict constraints on this freelance project. But, that is one of my favorite parts of being a designer: the challenge to make regulations into informative, inventive, and aesthetically pleasing designs.
